This is a one-line electronic display of the vehicle's course marking. The electronic LED display shows the vehicle's driving data (course) entered in the on-board computer with possible differentiation by an additional sign of driving outside the timetable (without the entered service) or according to the timetable of the adopted course, etc.

The course indicator under the VLP 08x36 designation contains 8 rows and 35 columns of LEDs, which allows the display of 8×5 characters, with the 6th column used to display the "space" between characters. The display therefore shows 6 character positions and two character sizes, including the possibility of displaying letters or inverse display.

The height of the LED field is 46 mm (font height), while the grid between the LEDs is 6.0 mm. The active size of the display area thus corresponds to 46 x 213 mm.

In vehicles, 2 units are installed as standard on each side of the driver's cab in a suitable location. In double-sided trams, 4 units are installed. The positioning can also be with the thick side up - then the character rendering is switched. The method of mounting on the vehicle is individual.

Course number function

The course number display can show the following data on an 8×35 LED field. This is the format (other formats can be selected according to requirements):

  • LLLPP

where LLL ... three-digit line number (smaller font), PP .. . two-digit line order (larger font)

The following codes can be displayed in the first position (in the following order if there is a priority conflict):

  • X = car is running without a registered driver.
  • Inverse Z = if the selected function is training
  • K = vehicle is in divert mode
  • P = the vehicle is driving in Positive mode
  • N = vehicle is in alternate mode
  • C = vehicle has a destination set other than the destination stop (line performance only)
  • (empty) - in all cases not listed above

Mechanical design

The mechanical design of the heading indicator is shown in the following figure. There are now many types of brackets for mounting the unit -- K2 trams, T3, Antira, KT-8, Skoda T13, trolleybuses and buses, etc --. In this case, it is advisable to consult the mounting of the heading indicator separately.
