Passenger counting unit - UCP 02

The unit of the UCP 02 counting system is used for image capture and subsequent image processing. The sensed signal from the stereo camera is processed on-line in the unit and converted into numerical form in the sensor (passengers entering/exiting at the time of door opening). Therefore, this camera system is not in violation of data protection law. The result of this processing is information on the number of boarding and alighting passengers in the door above which the unit is located.

Using the unit

The UCP-02 (unit of counting passengers) sensor unit is equipped with a powerful control unit used for sensing and mainly for subsequent image processing. The sensed signal from the stereo camera is processed on-line in the unit and converted into a numerical form in the sensor (boarding/deboarding passengers at the time of door opening). Therefore, this camera system is not in violation of data protection law. The result of this processing is the information on the number of boarding and alighting passengers in the door above which the unit is located. This data is sent to the system's parent unit, which sends the aggregated data to the on-board system - adding information about time, stop, GNSS (GPS) position, service, journey, driver, etc.).

The unit has two uses:

  • It is controlled from EPIS on-board computers (EPIS 4.0x or EPIS 5.0x). Then the data for processing in the ADA software is prepared by these on-board computers.
  • it is controlled by another on-board computer in the vehicle - then it is necessary to send basic information for data processing from this PP. The UCP unit above the front door usually acts as the controller and the others in the vehicle are then slave units. The accuracy of the statistical processing then depends on the background information obtained for this processing, i.e. the knowledge of the timetable in the evaluation software.
  • is used in an application other than the vehicle - e.g. to monitor the flow of pedestrians and cyclists at the door or gates. Then the evaluation SW generates rather a time load of the pedestrian or cyclist path.

In-vehicle use

The units will be connected via an Ethernet bus, which will also be used to power the units (PoE system - passive type B). Thus, there is only one UTP cable leading to the UCP-02 units, which provides power and data communication at the same time. This will allow reduced requirements for current and future system installations. In addition, intelligent communication between the on-board computer and the Ethernet switch ECU - 08P0 (see description of the Ethernet switches) will allow monitoring whether the units are powered and switching them on and off if necessary. In selected cases also by means of ECU 08P1 or ECU 08P3.

Mechanical design

The mechanical version is usually custom-made according to the vehicle profile. The dimensions below are approximate and can be modified on request. The heat loss of the unit must be taken into account during installation and therefore a "safe" space must be left above the unit to cool it (it must not be placed directly into the insulation of the vehicle roof). The installation must always consider the 'under-run' height of the unit.

Fabion design

This design is placed in curved spaces and is characterised by the ability to
to rotate to give the unit optimum coverage of the door space.

Direct design

This design is particularly suitable where there is sufficient space behind the unit and it can be recessed into this space. The unit cannot be rotated and this is done by SW by defining the space when configuring the unit.

Convex design

This design is identical to the previous one, but there is no space for cooling above the unit or there are supporting elements of the vehicle ceiling above the unit that must not be disturbed.
